5 out of 5 stars Must Have   June 23, 2010

I'm a PA student in my clinical year. This book is a must-have for clinical year and when you begin to practice. It is absolutely necessary to be up to date on the latest antimicrobial treatment. I will buy the latest edition every year I practice in health care.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best antibiotic guides available...   June 15, 2010

Grab your reading glasses and try the best little antibiotic guide out there. Well cited and using EBM extensively, this little pocket antibiotic guide is a practicing physician's best friend. Allergic to Augmentin or Septra? This guide usually lists recommended alternative antibiotic regimens for a given condition. It also gives suggested starting HAART regimens for HIV. Admiral Sanford started a very good thing, and I use the guide extensively in daily practice (inpt/outpt and ER).

superb stellar book. A must have book for all Nurse practitioners. However, I purchased the spiral bound to store in my pocket. I think the typeset is too small. If I had to purchase it again, I would try to find one with a larger font. Great information. too small a print in a practical sense and the ink is is too light.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Useful Resource   August 25, 2010

I am a practicing IM physician for the last 14 years and have always had one of these in my pocket since residency days. This for me is a very valuable resource and small enough to be kept available at the point of care. I have been waiting patiently for release of an app for the iPhone (which the Sanford site until recently noted was being worked on), and now that it appears that is not in the cards I went ahead and updated by 2007 version to this one.

I am pleased with the slightly larger print as my mid-40s vision for close up stuff is not what it once was and the organization of this guide remains the same; in fact page numbers are almost the same across different versions.

All in all, this is highly recommended for health care providers. If you are not in the medical field this would likely be of little interest as the guide consists basically of tables of recommendations for medications to treat infections, both the common and (thankfully) very uncommon.

5 out of 5 stars Antibiotic bible   June 21, 2010

The Sanford guide has been my "bible" for bug drugs for about 15 years... recommend it to anyone needing to choose antibiotic therapy.
